Savannah got a car on April 11. We have been looking for one for a while trying to find a good deal and to get a car so that Savannah would be comfortable driving it for her test this fall. We also wanted Hannah to have something to drive this summer while she is home.
Since the VW Beetle was redesigned (back when Savannah was little) She has talked of wanting a slug bug. The thought that people would be slugging each other while she drove around makes her laugh.
She has named her car Tomater. Her favorite character in the Cars movie was Mater and she said that she would name her car after him. We laughed a few weeks ago having this conversation, that if she got a slug bug, it would be round like a tomato and the name Tomater would be fitting. Her dad and grandpa went to pick up the car while she was a school and that evening when they got home, she was surprised to receive her Tomater.
This picture is the only one I have. We had bad weather that day with storms and tornado warnings. It was still raining, but I had to get a picture of this momentous occasion.

First Day of School
Today is Savannah's and Zachary's first day of school. I managed to get both to school on time. Zachary barely... traffic was awful. It took 15 minutes to drive 1/2 mile. We could have walked, but no sidewalks and no place to walk. I dropped them both off extremely nervous. I am hoping they each are having a great day.
For me on the other hand, the day has been quiet. I have cleaned out Kyle's closet and mine. Quite a productive day. I have some more cleaning to do then off to pick up the kids. This is a big year for both. Zachary's first year in middle school and Savannah's first in high school.
I am already missing the lazy days of summer.

Exhausted... And Gearing up for Back to School
Savannah had Red Letter Days yesterday. That is the fun where you get to go to the school and stand in line to prove your residency for that school. Then go to the cafeteria and go to the seven stations to turn in the handful of forms I had to fill out prior to registration and pick up her schedule. After all of that fun, we get the locker line. This particular feature was made extra fun because the school is over crowded and there are not enough lockers. The freshmen get to pick lockers the last day and there is a possibility there will be no locker for your child. I'll just leave it at this... the my kid is not carrying 40lbs. of books all day, all school year, momma in me was out and in force with the kids who didn't want to notice the mile long line waiting for lockers. It was fun! Savannah got a locker in the hall where she has two classes. Success! We got her books. One which looked horrible and I will be taking a picture of it and sending that to the book people for documentation so that I am not paying for a beat up book at the end of the year. We picked up her RHS hoodie order form ( gotta get that Raptor wear!) and out we went.
We got home and had dinner and then it was time for a Young Women sleepover at our house. Thank you Kyle, Zachary, and Hannah for being good sports. I know you are sleep deprived because of all of the laughing, screaming, running, etc. Sorry. :) It has been a long day and it is only 1:00pm. I am ready for bed already! The young women were great though and we had a lot of fun. Just tired after 4 hours of sleep.

Academic Fair
On May 7th Savannah's school had the 8th graders participate in an academic fair. The kids had to choose any topic, research the topic, write a paper, have a display board about what they learned, and an extra visual. Since Savannah learned in December that she has asthma, she chose to learn more about it and use that for her project.
Here is Savannah with her completed project.
Her brochures for anyone to take for more information on asthma.

Good Works
Yesterday Savannah completed her Good Works Young Women Project. In December our ward youth did a service project to gather some needed items for the Hospital Hospitality House. Savannah and Allie were touched by the people that were there being served by the HHH. They wanted to continue to help them and decided it would make a good yw project. They met with the assistant principal at school to see if they could have the middle school kids donate items. They were asked to present it to the teen leadership students, so they made their presentations to both classes and they loved the idea. They went to each class and told them of the needed items with a points value attached to each item. The winning homeroom got a pizza party. They mad posters for the school walls with the information as well as posters with the home room tallies. The also put the information in the middle school newsletter. The contest ended on Friday. Yesterday we went to HHH to deliver the items. We met the family that started the HHH, and the girls were interviewed on video to be recorded in the history of HHH. To learn about the HHH here is the link http://www.hospitalhospitalityhouse.org/.
In the group picture they are receiving the unloading instructions. Savannah and Allie getting interviewed by the HHH.
