Light the Night with Luminaries

Every year on the second Saturday in December, our city lights luminaries and places them on the curb to light the neighborhood streets. Most neighborhoods participate. It is really pretty with the neighborhood lit up. People come to the area just to see the lights. They say that airplanes taking off and landing in the area can see all the lights.
This tradition comes from a Mexican tradition of lighting a bonfire on Christmas Eve.
It was a pain for Kyle to set up and it took a while, but it was pretty when it was done.

School Projects!

My kids have had at least one project going on since October. They are time consuming and they are getting old. I am constantly buying more supplies so they can complete their projects. Zachary seems to have projects that are for the parents instead of the kids themselves. I feel like I am in fourth grade all over again! I feel like George Banks in the Father of the Bride when he says " George Banks is saying NO!" I am to that point. I finally finished a poster to go with the essay on Paul Revere. I am glad I am finished. Just a hint for all those moms with kids in school... keep all the projects you do (if you get them back). You may be able to recycle them. I recycled the solar system project last spring. Zachary and Savannah both had to make a solar system. Anyway, maybe it is just the schools my kids go to that are so project crazy, but Jennifer is ready to say no! I think I need a Christmas Vacation! I am looking forward to time off from school starting the 19th.

Snow Day!

The kids got a snow day. We actually got a call last night around 9pm. This is a picture of our front yard and the street.Just a pretty picture of our snow covered shrubs.

Hannah's car. She is glad she didn't have to clear it off and drive to school.

Savannah- getting ready to build a snowman.

Zachary and his snowball. He is ready to get Savannah when she comes outside.

The snow is has been melting away this morning, so the kids will enjoy it while it lasts. Then they will come in and enjoy some hot chocolate and Christmas movies. Can't beat that!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

We have snow! It has been cold for weeks and it has been raining a lot but never freezing temperatures with the rain. It has been raining all day and cold. As I was picking up Zachary from school today it was sleeting. The weather lady said that there was no chance for snow. I should have known what that meant. Snow! It is pretty to look at and the kids took Brinkley out and decided to stay out while we have the snow. Of course, the kids are hoping that school is cancelled. I guess we will see how it goes. It is only getting colder tonight, but I am sure they will not cut us any slack and make an announcement tonight. At least if it is going to be cold, it can be pretty. I tried to get some really good pictures, but my camera kept acting funny because of the snow falling. This is all I could get.

Baby It's Cold Outside!

Man has it been cold here! We had a pretty nice October and then November came. Our temperatures have been below normal since. The temperature is 10 degrees below normal and it will feel good compared to how cold it has been. We got snow yesterday! No it didn't stick here, but yuck. I am longing for some warm weather! The Caribbean sounds wonderful! Maybe I'm just getting old? I know that some of you reading this will be laughing because you have already had snow and will have more, but hey, it is not normal here. Since I have blogged about it, maybe I can go through today without being crabby like yesterday. Man, I don't like the cold!
